I’ve started looking at JDM offroad vehicles. Thinking I may try and take advantage of Canada’s 15 year import rule and my (relative) proximity to the asian market . Good pricing, clean cars and low kilometers.
1999 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado RX
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Overnight offroad parts from Australia?
VAN MAN!
So pumped.
1998 Jimny!
Hell yea
And finally, the dumbest yet cheapest idea. Some sort of minitruck
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it has 4 low.
This video is proof rednecks of one sort or another exist in every country.
What say you oppo?

I won't say no to suggesting an import.

I’d say you’re just trying to make all of us in the US jealous.
And it’s working.

I could literally buy one of these today, just over 30 minute drive.
You will have to wait a few years....

Stupid 25 year rule...

And drinking at 19 here and 18 other provinces, legal mj federally.
WHO’S FREE NOW!!!!?

Great option, do your homework. There are literally a ton of jdm rarieties sitting in BC rusting away because they are not a good idea.
I limit myself to looking at something popular, that it would be possible to get parts for here. Like 60/80/100 series Cruisers, Hilux Surf, Pajero/Motero, Jimnys, etc etc.
The awesome not available here models like that three door Prado, Toyota Blizzard, Pajero Jr, Nissan Patrols are amazing- but if you are not a diehard fan with a garage and a line of credit they are not a good idea.
*Be very careful around the diesel Hilux Surfs and Prados with the 2LT and 2LTE. Super common to get over here and blow the headgasket/crack the heads. Parts not available locally. They end up getting re-franken-built out of available North American bits..
The real sad part is you are adding $3-5K on the vehicle price to import it over here. You can buy decent 4Runners, and Samurais, and even Jeeps where that money is going into the vehicle and not the paperwork.
And do I have to tell you that Insurance may not be the easiest?

Why can’t someone just give me a brand new Rubicon/4Runner for free.
It would be so much easier.

AT LEAST WE DON’T HAVE TO WAIT FOR HEALTH CARE!!!
( because we can’t afford it)

Meh. Sometimes I wish we had an option to pay. Sometimes I’d rather give someone $1,000 than be in pain.

DO IT
(the Prado)
(or maybe the Delica)
![]() 01/10/2019 at 19:36 |

If you offered me both, I’d go the van man route.
![]() 01/10/2019 at 19:39 |

I wanted a Suzuki Carry to track it and put a plow on it in winter, and in summer at tires and use that instead of a side by side.

DO IT
BE A VAN MAN

Jimny 410%.
Basic, yes, but they can seriously outperform a lot of larger more complex 4x4s! Also, they are the only off-roader I would ever consider buying because they are a small, plucky size, not something massive and gass-guzzling!
Though I suggest you get a Jimny Wide if you consider one, as they have a larger 1.3L 4-cyl engine and wider track while all JDM non-Wide model
Jimnys are considered kei class and have a narrower track with 660cc engines!
Also, I’ve heard potentially negative things about Velocity. Fraser Valley Imports and PacificCoastAuto are the two I’ve heard aren’t bad (PacificCoastAuto has an awesome Youtube channel), also, there’s always Flavien! You could get him to import EXACTLY what you want!

Contrary to popular belief, neither system is perfect.
I think we’re headed toward legal mj nationwide eventually, but will take a while.
FWIW I’d take the LC Prado on your list, but I’m really more of a car guy.

If you’re going to do a Jimny, at least do one old enough to have a removable top. Fixed top off-roaders make me sad.

Ah yes, Flavie n. Hmmm

I hate you. You get to have this.

Its probably a good thing you don’t live in Canada. I think you’d have even more cars if there was a 15 year waiting peroid
![]() 01/10/2019 at 21:04 |

If I didn’t live on O regon I’d have a fleet of Kei cars. We are the only state in the US that currently flat out refuses to allow them to be road registered. :(
I want a cappuccino so bad

What! That’s bullshit.
You can buy one and keep it here...
![]() 01/10/2019 at 21:18 |

They did do a convertible, it is a lot more rare though:
![]() 01/10/2019 at 21:19 |

They cite safety and noncompliance with federal crash standards
, which is bullshit because the 25 year rule means they don’t have to meet federal safety standards
...and claim that the are incapable of highway speeds, which is hilarious because Oregon has some of the lowest speed limits in the US
But they are the ones that decide to issue registration, so our hands are tied. It’s a recent thing too, but no one I know of (including dealers and importers) has been able to successfully register one in the last year and a half.

Is that the Santana 3rd gen? Didn’t realize those existed.
